FLORENCIA SIRENA

Composer & Poet (Argentina)

Florencia Sirena (Composer and Poet, Argentina) is Ph.D. in Music -Composition area- at the Catholic University of Argentina (Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina - UCA), graduated in 2024. She received her Degree in Music Composition at the Catholic University of Argentina (Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina -UCA), graduated with honours in 2016. In 2018 she received her postgraduate degree as a Diploma in Contemporary Music, specialization Composition at the Music Conservatory “Manuel de Falla” (Conservatorio Superior de Música Manuel de Falla). She also has a Professorship degree –specialized in Musical Composition- at the Catholic University of Argentina (Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina - UCA), year 2020.

She is a professor in the subjects Composition I, Composition II, Audioperceptive I and Musical Formation I (Manuel de Falla Conservatory of Music - Buenos Aires, Argentina); in the subjects Interpretation of Contemporary Music, Harmony II and Harmony III (Ástor Piazzolla Conservatory Of Music - Buenos Aires, Argentina), and in the subject Introduction to Composition (Alberto Ginastera Conservatory of Music - Morón, Buenos Aires, Argentina).

In 2022 she obtained the National Classical Award as "Revelation Composer", an award given by Radio Nacional Clásica (Classical National Radio, Argentina). Recognition of ethics and excellence in the promotion and development of musical identity, sustainable, plural and with a gender perspective.

She was assistant teacher in the chairs of Composition IV and Seminar of Composition I at the Catholic University of Argentina (Pontifica Universidad Católica Argentina - UCA) during the years 2017 and 2018.

Her piece Crash Dummies, for chamber orchestra, solo voices and narrator was awarded by the National Fund for Arts (Fondo Nacional de las Artes - FNA), in the National Composition Contest "Juan Carlos Paz Prize" - 2016. (category: Classical / Academic Music). She obtained the 2nd Prize.

She was selected in the CALL NANÓPERA organized by Barbados – Artes Escénicas and Machado Theater. As a result of that, she wrote a chamber opera for its series 2018. That opera, named The Golden Rings -with a script by Guido Ondarts- was premiered and edited in the year 2018.

Her piece Prisma, for flute, violin and electronics, has received awards on two occasions: an honorable mention given by the 39th Argentine Tribune of Composers (TRINAC 2017) through the Fundación Encuentros Internacionales de Música Contemporánea (Argentina), and by the "World Music Days 2018” organized in the city of Beijing (China) by the Official Section of the International Contemporary Music Society 

(ISCM-SIMC); and awarded to integrate the academic repertoire of different countries by the International Composition Contest for Mixed Media - MEGA JURY 2017, organized by the Music Conservatory “Manuel de Falla” (Conservatorio Superior de Música “Manuel de Falla”) and the Music Conservatory “Astor Piazzolla” (Conservatorio “Astor Piazzolla”) -year 2018-.

Her composition Cuatro Estaciones, for mezzo-soprano and piano, was selected by the University of Chile to participate in a concert dedicated to Latin American Composers (year 2018).

In 2018 she received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of Argentina (Ministerio de Cultura de la Nación Argentina) in an agreement with the National Fund for Arts (Fondo Nacional de las Artes - FNA); through BECAR CULTURA. As a result of that, she went to Chile during one month (2019) with the goal of working on a new piece for ensemble in collaboration with the Contemporary Ensemble UC - conducted by Mtro. Luciano Aliocha Solovera – which is a resident ensemble in the Catholic University (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile).

In 2019, she received a scholarship by COMPOSERS CONFERENCE: COMPOSER FELLOWS (United States) to participate in intensive seminars and public colloquia with distinguished international composers, such as Yu-Hui Chang and Kurt Rodhe. The scholarship also included the composition of a musical piece dedicated to the ensemble –Conference Ensemble- to be performed publicly and recorded professionally. Residence period from July 28th to August 11th, 2019 at Brandeis University (Walthamm, Massachusetts, United States)

Year 2020. She was selected as a composer to participate in the International Festival of Contemporary Music: Atemporanea Festival 2020; organized by the Superior Conservatory of Music Ástor Piazzolla. Piece selected: Binario -for flute, clarinet and soprano-. (Buenos Aires, Argentina)

She has participated as a composer in the II Music and Gender Conference organized by the Ástor Piazzolla Conservatory, year 2020.

She was jury in the International Composition Contest organized by the Argentine ensemble Trio Dinamo and the Master Degree Project of the Manuel de Falla Conservatory of Music, year 2020.

She was the founder and the artistic director -together with Martina Galli- of the instrumental ensemble Contemporary Alive | Argentina Ensemble (CA|AE) devoted to the interpretation and promotion of contemporary music. She was member and president of CUDA United Composers of Argentina- (Compositores Unidos de la Argentina), producing public concerts organized by this associations (member: 2017-2024 / president 2023-2024). Actually, she is member of UNACOM -Argentinian Union of Female Music Composers- (Unión Argentina de Compositoras de Música) producing public concerts. 
Her poems have been published in three collection books of Argentinean poetry.
